yoga reading good books
I am in the process of receiving my yoga instructor certification, and one of the required texts is by James Hewitt, The Complete Yoga Book. I am extremely busy with classes, papers, and currently three jobs, but I have found time every morning to sit down on my porch and read from this text. I wish I could take an entire day to escape under a tree and read it in its entirety, but that would throw...

Shakespeare & chai.
I am enrolled in a 2-week extensive Shakespeare course at the end of July. Winona, MN is a great place to live and learn about Shakespeare because The Great River Shakespeare Festival is held here annually. The syllabus for the course is very thorough and the professor, Dr. Jane Carducci, expects nothing but quality and heartfelt work, so to prepare I am starting early in my reading. Tonights...

The title is in honor of Bob Dylan’s birthday, which was yesterday, May 24th.
I have been horrible lately at keeping up with my blog. It’s not that I don’t have all sorts of ramblings I could post daily, but sometimes I’m just not in the mood to share. If that makes sense?
Summer has begun, although it took a while to really feel it. I taught at the Middle School my...

And with the new leaf, comes a new beginning.
Spring has finally arrived. There have been the cold Spring days where your nose drips and goosebumps appear on your arms, but you still don’t grab a jacket. There have also been the hot sun on your face Spring days. For myself Spring brings a new feeling inside of me. A feeling of freedom from the indoors and the smell of fresh air. A feeling of a new beginning that lurks behind the...

I have a new hobby.
I am on the editing team for the literary magazine, Satori, at Winona State University. The magazine expresses the artistic spirit of students and features poetry, prose, and graphic art.
Today we took part in a bookmaking workshop, and I fell in love with all the different ways of bookbinding. At the end we created our own book and sewed the binding with thread. It is times like these that I...

My latest .and greatest. tattoo.
It hurt like a mother fucker, pardon my language, but that is all that can be said. I usually have a high pain tolerance, but this was a different story. The pain was all worth it, as I am in love with it.
I love decorating my body!

Rise with the sun to pray. Pray alone. Pray often. The Great Spirit will listen, if you only speak. ~ Be tolerant of those who are lost on their path. Ignorance, conceit, anger, jealousy and greed stem from a lost soul. Pray that they will find guidance. ~ Search for yourself, by yourself. Do not allow others to make your path for you. It is your road, and yours alone. Others may walk it with...

“I like too many things and get all confused and...
The title is a quote from my dream man (if only he was still alive), Jack Kerouac. I sometimes find that this quote sums up my entire state of being most of the time. I get inspired about 100 times a day, and I let a handful of those inspirations consume me. Sometimes this is a wonderful thing, sometimes it only leads to confusion. Do you ever have those moments where you can’t explain the...

Good Morning from NoDak.
I arrived in North Dakota on Saturday afternoon. It was a long drive, but I had Cooper to keep me company. He is the greatest dog ever. It took him a short while to warm up to my ma’s two other dogs: a bull mastiff and a yorkie (quite the combo). I spent the day with my ma, sister, and brother yesterday. It has been over a year since it has been the three of us, so it was much needed. I...

"The Spirit Catches You And You Fall Down"
I checked out this book at the library today, and I am very excited to read it. There is a large population of Hmong immigrants in Minnesota, and after going on a visit to a Hmong home I realized how many tribulations the Hmong people have encountered. I listened to a mother of nine talk about how her people were forced to become refugees during the Vietnam war. I listened to how she came to...

act local, think global
Here in Winona, MN we are lucky enough to have a wonderful co-op filled with shelves and shelves of great and natural foods, drinks, and body care products. It has become a ritual of mine every Friday after my shift at Timber’s (a family owned restaurant that I spend my time waitressing at) to go to the co-op, get a cup of coffee, and browse the isles. It is therapeutic in a way. Today my...

Wanderlust Festival 2011
Wanderlust 2011
I so badly want to go to the Wanderlust Festival this summer. I may have to pick up a few extra shifts, and by few I mean I may have to pick up another job just to pay for the tickets (plane and festival). It would be so worth it… yoga, music, speakers, nature, peace. Yes please.
